You know it’s Summer in Abu Dhabi if…

It’s officially summer here in Abu Dhabi in Paul’s and my book.  The heat is turned up and a blanket of humidity has set in.  I know everyone likes to complain about their weather… too hot, too cold, too rainy, too sunny (actually, not sure anyone ever says that one), but I thought I’d share some things that make our summers unique :)  So taking after the old redneck jokes, here are my Abu Dhabi Sumerisms.

You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if….  you have to turn off your hot water heater in order to be able to wash your hands without scalding them
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if…  you step outside and your skin immediately feels like you just climbed out of a pool
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if…  you sit on the toilet and feel the heat from the toilet bowl water
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if…  the high that day was 30 degrees hotter than what your relatives in Vegas are complaining about
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if…  your idea of a day out of the house is walking around an air conditioned mall
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if…  you can practice bikram yoga outside
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if…  you haven’t seen a blue sky or clouds in months, just more of the dull, sandy haze
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if… you have to let your camera lens “defog” from the heat and humidity before taking any photos
You know it’s summer in Abu Dhabi if… you find yourself stashing boxes of tissues in your car so you can wipe the sweat off your face, chest, arms,
legs when you get in your car from running an errand

This was taken in Paul’s car almost a month ago at 4pm…  and it’s only gone up from there!

But it’s not all bad.  We actually look forward to one summer “month” all year—Ramadan.  We’ve been loving the reduced working hours that have given us the chance to work on some home projects, meet up with friends for dinners, hit the gym, work on “our” golf game, and still get a good night’s sleep and feel rested for the next day of work.  And as hot as it gets, the fantastic “winters” more than make up for it :)
